What Is Overcrowding (And What Do I Do)?

Has a friend mentioned that the problem with your smile appears to be overcrowding? Do you know that your smile could certainly use some help but you don’t really know anything about this (or other types) of malocclusion (or a misaligned bite)? If so, you may not know where to begin or what types of treatments are available to you. We encourage you to talk with us about your smile to determine whether your teeth really are crowded, if something else is an issue, and how we can help.

About Overcrowding

When someone tells you that your teeth are “crowded,” this is in reference to having more teeth than your smile can support (or teeth that have grown in very closely together). You will notice the problem by teeth that overlap one another, which can make your smile appear esthetically displeasing. This can also make it difficult to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth, as a lot of surfaces are not readily accessible for you to clean them.

What To Do

The best thing you can do when you’re struggling with overcrowding is to visit with us about how we can move forward with addressing the issue. In some instances, tooth extractions become essential to create additional room in your smile. An orthodontic treatment is also typically required to shift teeth into proper alignment (this may include traditional braces or Invisalign treatment).
